Edited: 8 years agoĪccording to my Panamanian attorney, photos are of little value. Fortunately, there are a many, many warnings in this forum about renting cars at Tocumen. That's why I rented a car at Tocumen exactly once, and never will again. And, they're hoping that with your distractions (like the $150 clean fee and your flight to check in for) you won't pay any attention to all the other extra charges they have added onto your bill. They know you won't argue much, or you'll miss your flight. The bandits at Tocumen know that if you are returning your car there, you have a flight to catch and a limited amount of time to catch it. (One very good reason to inspect the car along with the inspector and insist that ANYTHING that might possibly be a scratch, a chip or even road tar be marked on the inspection form. Many have bought new windshields for the same chipped glass over and over. Usually, it's damage - like scratches under the front bumper or a chip in the windshield. all the agencies at Tocumen pull the same stunts, and they have a LOT of ways to gouge travelers returning their cars.
Sorry you had the misfortune of renting a car at Tocumen. So my advice is: get a written document/receipt that they will return the deposit, then the whole appeal with your credit card company will run more smoothly, or DON'T rent from Thrifty cars. Thrifty tried to redo the transaction a couple of times but four month later we won this battle and the money was returned to us. I contacted my credit card company and asked them to dispute the transaction since there was no agreement. Three days later when I checked my account back in Sweden I found out that douchebags at Thrifty cars had charged me USD 150 anyways. We argued with them for a good 45 minutes and they finally agreed to return our deposit since they couldn’t prove that they had a clause about the demand to wash the car before returning it. This wasn't anything they'd informed us about when collecting the car, nor could they show us were it said so in the contract we'd signed. airport, and when we returned it this really unpleasant dude (Miguel) stated that "the car was a mess" (which it wasn't), and that we needed to pay USD 150 for a car wash.
